Chances for female researchers at TU Wien featured by the “Glasdecken-Index”

The chances of female researchers finding a scientific management is monitored by the “Glass Ceiling Index”, shown in the Gender Monitoring of the Ministry of Education.

For the index, the proportion of women in the entire academic or artistic staff is set in relation to the proportion of women in academic or artistic management positions. A value of 1 indicates equal opportunities for advancement for women and men. The higher the value exceeds 1, the “thicker” the glass ceiling, which in turn signals poorer career opportunities for women. The index does not evaluate the chance of entering a university career, but of advancement in the system.

TU-Wien with 1.33 stood out as particularly positive. Although relatively few women embark on a scientific career at the TU, they have better chances of a management position during this than at the other scientific universities.
